Aircraft continuous climb/descent modelling using computer based tools

چکیده
In the context of civil air navigation, and following the proposed paradigm shift for Air Traffic Management (ATM), it has become necessary to be able to improve accuracy of Trajectory Predictors (TP). This is particularly relevant for analysis and design of Terminal Manoeuvring Areas procedures, which consist of a mixture of conventional, Continuous Climb Departures (CCD) and Continuous Descent Approaches (CDA). This work is mainly driven by the need to reduce operational cost as well as decrease the impact on the environment. All these together with the urgency to improve the levels of safety and capacity of ATM, support the importance of achieving great accuracy in aircraft trajectory predictions. Over the years there has been an increase in the amount of computer based tools that predict the situation of an aircraft using Four-Dimensional Trajectories (4DT), therefore the assessment of the accuracy of these predictors is a must. This paper proposes a methodology that can be applied to any trajectory simulator tool. It also suggests a way of measuring its precision in order to improve upon it and make it more accurate.

The Next Generation Air Traffic System (NGATS) is aiming to provide substantial computer support for the air traffic controllers. Algorithms for the accurate prediction of aircraft movements are of central importance for such software systems but trajectory prediction has to work reliably in the presence of unknown parameters and uncertainties. We are using the AutoBayes program synthesis syste...

The Center/TRACON Automaton System (CTAS) is a set of air traffic management tools developed by NASA in conjunction with the FAA. As part of its functionality, CTAS predicts aircraft flight trajectories using aeropropulsive models and the kinetic equations of motion for various flight conditions including climbs. Precise aeropropulsive models for all aircraft types are not yet available to NASA...
متن کاملClimb Trajectory Prediction Enhancement Using Airline Flight-planning Information
Software decision support tools that assist controllers with the management of air traffic are dependent upon the ability to accurately predict future aircraft positions. Trajectory predictions in en route airspace rely upon the availability of aircraft state, aircraft performance, pilot intent, and atmospheric data. The use of real-time airline information for improving ground-based trajectory...
متن کاملScheduling Aircraft Using Constraint Satisfaction
In this paper, an airport departure scheduling tool for aircraft is presented based on constraint satisfaction techniques. Airports are getting more and more congested with the available runway configuration as one of the most constraining factors. A possibility to alleviate this congestion is to assist controllers in the planning and scheduling process of aircraft. The prototype presented here...

In this work arrival traffic following a continuous descent approach profile into the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was simulated based on actual recorded traffic data. The fuel burn for the simulated traffic was estimated using the Base of Aircraft Data (BADA) Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption model and compared to a baseline simulation of the as-flown trajectories, where the...
